What is an Arity driving score, and why does it matter?
WHAT is an Arity driving score?
In general, a driving score is a valuable insight that helps measure how safe a driver someone is. For insurance pricing purposes, an Arity driving score measures how risky a driver someone is by looking at risk-related behaviors like speeding and phone handling.
HOW is an Arity driving score for auto insurance pricing calculated?
Arity receives data for more than 40M U.S. drivers via our partners’ consumer mobile apps and usage-based insurance (UBI) programs. We look at some obvious risk-related driving behaviors like speeding and phone handling while driving, as well as aggressive driving which can be derived through hard braking and extreme acceleration.
One common misconception is that one instance, or even a few instances of risky behaviors have a major impact on your driving score – this isn’t true. A great part of an Arity driving score is that it measures driving behavior over time and is intuitive. For instance, aggressive or risky driving behaviors are warranted sometimes, like when braking suddenly or swerving to avoid an accident, but consistent speeding or texting while driving is against the law and is proven to lead to accidents. Measuring over time allows the opportunity to build and control your driving score rather than being held to one time incidents that are warranted.
HOW is my Arity driving score used for personalized insurance prices? HOW can I access it?
While Arity is a B2B company, our products and services benefit consumers – they’re just delivered via our partners.
Our insurance partners can access and use driving scores via the Arity IQ℠ network to help provide more accurate, personalized auto insurance rates for consumers.

So, how does this work? If you have shared driving behavior data in an app we partner with, you may be offered the choice to give an insurance carrier access to your driving score for a personalized auto insurance rate. Insurance carriers have the option to use the Arity driving score via the Arity IQ℠ network, they can also use aggregated driving behavior data as inputs to generate their own proprietary score or use aggregated driving behavior data.
If you would like to access and understand what your driving behavior data is, in some apps you can view it right in the app itself. Also, once you have opted in to sharing your driving data as part of an insurance quote via the Arity IQ network, you can obtain a copy of that driving data report from Arity Services.
WHY does an Arity driving score matter?
With an Arity driving score, our insurance partners can motivate safe driving by informing customers on how to become safer drivers by incentivizing customers to reduce risky driving behaviors through a UBI program.
At the end of the day, apps that share insights from Arity based on your driving behaviors as part of its user experience can be used as a helpful educational tool. Not only do driving scores empower drivers to understand how their behaviors impact their own and others’ risk on the road, but these scores also help give greater control over how much they pay for auto insurance.
WHEN does Arity collect my driving behavior data, and WHEN does Arity share it?
At Arity, we know you take your privacy seriously. The data shared with Arity allows us to build services that are not only valuable to end consumers, but that serve to transform transportation for the better.
However, before we receive data, we work with our mobile app partners to provide the applicable notices and obtain the necessary rights to collect the data and share it with Arity.
