At Arity, we believe in the power of data to drive positive change—especially when it comes to auto insurance. Recently, there have been questions about how we use driving behavior data, and we’d like to clear up any confusion and address any concerns. Transparency is a core value for us and a key element of our approach, ensuring consumers gain more control over their auto insurance costs and ultimately save money. We’re also confident that our approach follows the law, while helping insurance companies better serve their customers.
We know legal matters can be complicated, so we appreciate the chance to explain. Some have raised questions about how we collect and share driving behavior data, and whether consumers are fully informed. Simply put, Arity uses driving behavior data to help drivers by offering more control, transparency, and better rates.
Arity has collected and analyzed over two trillion miles of driving data from trusted sources, including data from consumers who choose to use our mobile apps and popular consumer apps like Life360. Our approach is based on clear consent—a consumer must agree to the use of their data for a personalized insurance quote before Arity shares their data with an insurance company. This driving behavior data helps insurers offer drivers fairer, more accurate insurance rates based on how they drive, giving drivers who practice safe driving habits the opportunity to save money.
Using driving behavior data to price auto insurance has been around for more than a decade, helping drivers get more personalized rates. This method rewards safe driving and reduces the impact of factors that can unfairly raise rates – and we continue to support this proven approach and its success.
We understand concerns about how driving behavior data is used, which is why we take steps to ensure that our process is transparent. Insurance companies that partner with us to use driving behavior data in their quoting process through the Arity IQ network must provide consumers with the option to opt in and clearly disclose the category of data sources. We also collaborate with them to educate consumers on how their driving behaviors affect price adjustments—whether those adjustments are increases or decreases. And if at any time a consumer no longer wants to share their driving behavior data, they can opt out at any time through the mobile app they used to share the data.
All of this is done to ensure consumers are fully informed and have control at every step of the way. As a result, adoption continues to grow as most customers, presented with clear, transparent language and a straightforward consent process, choose to share their data for insurance pricing.
We have been open about our use of driving behavior data for years, and remain committed to transparency, choice and control. Our goal is to continue offering consumers meaningful insights that can lead to saving money and better protection. As we respond to the recent concerns raised by the Texas Attorney General, we are confident that our practices are legal and ethical, and we continue to do the right thing for consumers and our partners.
